Welcome to community in East Portland

Montavilla Collective was started by a handful of Montavilla neighbors who wanted to support our neighbors by connecting in meaningful ways with people living in extreme poverty in East Portland. In the years that we have been in operation—in some years more than others—our work has taken the form of regular gatherings, art classes, advocacy, medical accompaniment, and sharing food.

Current projects include:

Hope & Bread Sunday Evening Community Gatherings

Looking for a place to connect with unsheltered neighbors and like-minded volunteers? Visit any Sunday at 5pm. Learn more on our Volunteer page.

Montavilla Picnic Shelter Advocacy & Fundraising

In 2026 Portland City Council approved a budget amendment to provide matching funds to rebuild the Montavilla Park Picnic Shelter, demolished in 2020 with a planned replacement that has not yet been built. Beginning in early 2027, Montavilla Collective will be leading the efforts to raise matching funds for this important public-private partnership. Look for a dedicated Picnic Shelter page in the near future.

Community Notary Development

Notary public services are increasingly costly and difficult to find. Montavilla Collective hopes to offer these services, free of charge, particularly to unhoused individuals who often need documents notarized in order to update identification and other important records. Look for a dedicated Community Notary page in the first quarter of 2027.

We are an all-volunteer organization powered by people who love to cook or support our most vulnerable neighbors and friends in other ways. There are many ways to make a difference to people who need our help. Please visit our Volunteer page to learn more.

We are able to do what we do because of your generosity. There are many ways to make a difference in large and small ways. If you are able to make a financial gift, you can do so here.‍ ‍
